How to convert JPG to PNG or WEBP

  1. 1Choose the JPG you want to convert.
  2. 2Select PNG or WEBP as the output format.
  3. 3Press Convert and download the new file.

When PNG makes sense

Every time a JPG is edited and saved again it loses a little quality. Converting to PNG first stops that, which is useful for graphics, screenshots and images you will edit several times.

When WEBP makes sense

WEBP files are usually smaller than JPG at similar quality and are supported by all current browsers. They are a good choice for website images.

Converting does not add transparency

A JPG has a solid background, and so will the PNG made from it. To get a transparent PNG, use the Remove Background tool.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert JPG to PNG?
Upload the JPG, leave PNG selected and press Convert. The PNG has the same dimensions as the original.
Does converting JPG to PNG improve quality?
No. It keeps the quality exactly as it is and stops further loss on later edits. It cannot bring back detail the JPG already lost.
Why is the PNG larger than the JPG?
PNG stores every pixel without loss, so photos take more space. If size matters, choose WEBP instead.
